The Colt Detective Special is a compact-sized revolver that holds 6 rounds of .38 Special. This means it holds one extra round compared to Smith & Wesson's J Frame models such as the Model 36, also known as the Chief's Special. Plainclothes officers favored this revolver due to its reliability and ease of concealment. Due to these reasons, many law enforcement agencies around the world at one point had armed their plainclothes detectives with appropriately named Colt Detective Special.
The Tanaka Colt Detective Special R-Model 2nd Issue Nickel Finish Model Gun is a faithful replica of the early variant of the Colt Detective Special. You can tell this is an early variant due to its slim barrel profile and slim pistol grip. This model gun is a non-firing replica that is great as a movie prop, or simply to be used as a tool to train on. This revolver is made of a durable reinforced plastic resin, allowing for a realistic feel without the extra weight of a heavy-framed revolver. In regards to its overall plastic construction, due to this gun being made in Japan, it is required by law for any firearm replicas to be made of plastic, but don't think that this model gun is broken easily.
