The Arisaka Type 44 Calvary Rifle or Type 44 Carbine was designed by Nariakira Arisaka for the Imperial Japanese Military and entered production in 1911. The reason why it is called Type 44 is that the year 1911 is the 44th year of Emperor Meiji's reign, this rifle served Japan throughout the entirety of World War II and was intended to replace the Type 38 as the former rifle requires soldiers to carry a separate bayonet or lance, while the Type 44 has a built-in foldable spike bayonet.
The Tanaka Works Arisaka Type44 Gas Airsoft Carbine is a faithful replica of the carbine rifle issued to Japanese troops during World War 2. This airsoft rifle is a 1:1 replica of the actual rifle except for the fact that it has a removable 12-round gas magazine, fires 6mm BBs, and has a blunt bayonet. The stock is made of actual wood and the receiver is of metal construction. Although this is a Japanese-made gun that is designed to use HFC134a or duster gas, there are no plastic exterior bits on this rifle.
We here in RedWolf appreciate Tanaka for making airsoft replicas of the Arisaka rifles as most World War 2 era guns available in airsoft are replicas of guns used in the European or African theaters while guns used in the Pacific theater seem to be absent. This rifle would serve well in a reenactment or in World War 2-themed airsoft games or simply as a nice wall hanger.
Please note that although the bayonet is blunt, it is still made of metal and could possibly do actual bodily harm, please DO NOT use this bayonet as a weapon or in airsoft skirmishes.
