M3 Grease Gun

The M3 is an American .45-caliber submachine gun adopted by the U.S. Army in 1942 and chambered for the same .45 ACP round fired by the Thompson submachine gun, but was cheaper to mass produce and lighter though less accurate. The M3 was commonly referred to as the "Grease Gun" owing to its visual similarity to the mechanic's tool. Heavily influenced by the simplicity of the British STEN gun, the M3 was an air-cooled blowback-operated weapon that fires from an open bolt and remained in US service for vehicle crews as late as 1991.
