The Maruyama SCW-9 is an interesting gas-powered airsoft submachine gun, first of all, its interesting name, both the company and model don't seem to be something we are familiar with, except for the gun oddly resembling something the United States military recently adopted for their Personal Security Detachments. Regardless, the SCW-9 is a CQB powerhouse, let us explain.
First of all, the overall form factor, this SMG is about the same size as an MP9 without the stock extended, but it maintains a traditional setup, with the magazine inserted in front of the trigger, with the ergonomics of a SCAR, BREN-2 and some controls resembling the M4 or AR-15 platform. This overall setup makes this gun super easy to maneuver in tight spaces and if you already are familiar with or are a user of the aforementioned rifles, you will find yourself home with this little beast!
Other than the size and the controls of the gun, this gun is littered with Picatinny slots, allowing you to attach different sights, optics, flashlights, lasers, grips, and maybe even a PEQ box. The four-position retractable stock also allows for shooters of different sizes to comfortably stock this gun. Speaking of shooters of all sizes, this gun is also ambidextrous, so no matter if you are a righty or a lefty, you can manipulate this airsoft SMG just fine.
Although the SCW-9 does not have a threaded barrel, it does have a tri-lug style muzzle and Maruyama is generous enough to provide a mock suppressor allowing you to run with an airsoft gun with some style as it seems that the tri-lug muzzle on the SCW-9 is proprietary and will not take MP5 muzzle devices. It is a bummer that the muzzle is proprietary, but guess what isn't, the magazines! You can use Umarex (By VFC)-made Glock magazines, such as the magazines for Glock 17, 19, 45, and 19X, but if you want the stock magazine capacity, the Glock 18C extended gas magazine is the way to go! Here in the RedWolf office, we also tested it with the RWA Agency Arms EXA magazines and it works too.
So if you already have a Umarex Glock or an RWA Agency Arms EXA, this is the best primary to pair with it, coupled with a bunch of magazines, you will be virtually unstoppable in a CQB scenario!
