The ISO556, a product of Swiss engineering and innovation, was developed in the 2000s as a modern, budget-friendly line of Assault Rifles, SMG, and Battle Rifles produced in various calibres. It incorporates well-considered, time-tested features, utilising contemporary materials and modern manufacturing processes. This firearm boasts numerous attributes that appeal to shooters, providing an economical alternative to the increasing demand for carbine rifles at its time of development, with the unique usage of a hydraulic buffer system to better mitigate recoil and improved parts longevity. Configurable in various calibres of pistol and rifle cartridges, the ISO offers ambidextrous functionality in a compact design, with its lightweight polymer housing enhancing control for LE/AF and civilian users alike.
Manufactured by Maruyama, the ISO556 is a gas blowback rifle designed in a carbine configuration. It features a 6-inch M-LOK handguard with an upper Picatinny rail interface, allowing shooters to attach accessories and customise their ISO to suit their playstyle. The flash hider can be removed, revealing a 14mm CCW outer barrel threading for mounting muzzle devices or tracers. Its ambidextrous fire control system caters to both left- and right-handed users, facilitating seamless adaptation of the rifle platform for either hand. The magazine release, fire selector, bolt release, and forward non-reciprocating charging handle are easily accessible for all users. The BT- / AR-style fire selector includes Safe, Semi, and Auto fire controls, enabling shooters to effortlessly switch between fire modes in various scenarios. At it?s rear, is the modular MBT-style stock, offering eight positions of stock length and three for cheek height, along with a folding hinge for convenient transportation or improved maneuverability in confined spaces. The stock features four QD sockets for mounting QD sling points, and can be removed to reveal a Picatinny stock rail interface, allowing owners to attach their own Picatinny stocks. Designed to accept Maruyama?s AR15/M4 GBB magazine, it is also compatible with Umarex (Elite Force) and VFC AR15/M4 GBB magazines, which fit most AR pouches available on the market, eliminating the need for new pouches. The Maruyama AR magazine provides a switch between last round bolt hold and dry fire mode, enabling owners to fire their gun at home without the necessity of chambering a BB for the rifle to function.
At its core, the rifle is constructed with an aluminium upper, and a robust high-strength polymer lower receiver, complemented by an aluminium bolt that ensures a rapid cyclic rate of fire while maintaining durability for extensive use. Many high-stress components are reinforced with steel parts, enhancing longevity for critical elements such as the hammer, sears, bolt release, and pins, ensuring reliable performance over time. Unique to this particular rifle, the hop up can be adjusted simply by rotating the dummy gas adjustment dial found at the front of the rifle, forgoing the need of disassembling or using a specialised tool in order to adjust the hop. The rifle delivers a satisfying recoil for such a compact platform, featuring a single-stage trigger pull with a hairline trigger that has zero take-up, and provides decent accuracy at 30 metres. Its lightweight design and compact form factor facilitate a convenient profile, allowing owners prolonged usage during milsim skirmishes.
