The Tanegashima, most often called in Japanese or Hinawaju (matchlock gun) more often referred to in English was a type of matchlock-configured arquebus firearm introduced to Japan through the Portuguese Empire in 1543. These were some of the first firearms used in Japan starting with the Samurai and footsoldiers that would later go on to change the way wars were fought in Japan forever. Within 10 years of its introduction, more than 300,000 tanegashima firearms were reported to have been made.
KTW brings this highly detailed, historical replica to life in the form of an actual functioning airsoft gun. The wood finish is exceptionally crafted and its barrel is made to look as if it was forged by a highly skilled gunsmith. You will see that the muzzle is enlarged and has a front sight post mounted on it which is aligned with its rear sight notch.
The barrel of the gun is then mounted to the wooden frame with finely made golden-colored clasps. The gold also extends to the fire controls of the gun such as the cocking handle, trigger, etc. Adding to its air of authenticity, you also receive some rope, that would also be present on the real firearm, which would then be lit and used to ignite the black powder packed into the gun, sending the projectile out. As this is an airsoft gun, this is purely for looks.
As previously mentioned, this is a fully functional airsoft gun which means you can actually fire it. Its a spring cocking rifle and features an internal magazine tube that can house an impressive 77 round capacity. You load the BBs from the underside of the rifle by first pulling the loading rod located under the muzzle, much like how you would breach load a musket or matchlock firearm. This gun also has an adjustable hop-up that can be accessed by using a small allen key located in front of the rear sight.
