A contender of the US Army 2015 XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition, the FN 509 is FN Herstal latest flagship pistol, a polymer-framed, striker-fire pistol derived from the proven architecture of their FN FNS series. As a contestant for the MHS competition, FN reached out to industry experts such as Larry Vickers to further develop the platform, meeting the extensive requirements of the rigorous competition, such as reliability, ammo compatibility and durability, in order to succeed in the competition, with over a million rounds of ammunition spent during its development.
A collaborative effort by Double Eagle Airsoft x FN Herstal, with licensing from EMG x Cybergun, the FN509 is a high-performance airsoft pistol with full trademarks and engravings for an immersive experience. Developed with a durable nylon reinforced polymer frame, and an aluminum optics-ready slide with serrations, the pistol is a blend of durable and lightweight design. The 509 boasts a plethora of options that benefit the shooter, with a texturised grip with two backstrap options to accommodate various hand sizes, a drop safety trigger, ambidextrous controls, with the slide release and enlarged, flushed mag release, making this pistol accessible for both left and right handed shooters. For customisability, it comes with Picatinny rails for peripheral accessories, standard or suppressor height fibre optic sights, threaded outer barrel and optional, interchangeable optics plates, that includes an RMR footprint optics plate, allowing shooters to tinker with the pistol to their liking.
The 509's drive train has been reinforced with a dual spring guide system, steel sears, ball bearings, and disconnect and fire controls, which enhance its durability and reliability during operation. Additionally, the air nozzle design of the 509 is uniquely crafted to mimic the nozzle of a gas blowback rifle. It features dual-guided nozzle return springs integrated into the nozzle housing, along with a roller bearing on the BBU to improve the smoothness of the slide cycle when firing. For its performance, the pistol provides a snappy recoil and a crisp trigger reset, with a stable performance of about 0.8j with 0.2g BBs, the 509 offers stable grouping at 20m in a 6cm radius. The green gas magazine has a capacity of 20+1 6mm BBs, able to clear 2 mag worth of BBs before having to refill the magazine gas. It realistic design requires the BBs to be loaded from the feed lip, protecting the BB tray from debris.
