The Designated Marksman Rifle, an evolved variant of the well-known M14 platform, serves as the successor to the M14 rifle, specifically engineered for the US Marine Corps. Its purpose is to deliver an accurate and precise marksman rifle at the squad level, surpassing the performance of the Remington M40 rifles and the infantry-standard M4 and M16 rifles, thanks to its semi-automatic action and the heavier 7.62x51mm cartridge.
G&P faithfully replicates this robust rifle, featuring a heavy-duty ABS stock and metal chassis, reinforced with steel components in areas prone to wear. This skirmish-ready AEG rifle is suitable for precision engagements as well as sustained suppressive fire, although it may prove unwieldy in confined spaces. The rifle is equipped with a fixed ABS stock and Picatinny rail interfaces for the attachment of optics, peripheral devices, and grips, along with an adjustable cheek riser for enhanced ergonomic comfort. The DMR includes functional fire controls, a satisfying mock bolt action, a swappable fire selector for Semi and Auto modes, adjustable windage and elevation iron sights, and the familiar safety switch reminiscent of the original M14 and the iconic M1 Garand. At its core, the system is powered by a 7mm M14 gearbox with steel gears, ensuring durability during intense engagements. It features a Deans (T-Plug) connection for optimal battery efficiency when using a 7.4v LiPo battery, or alternatively, an 11.1v battery for a more responsive performance.
This model is not merely an inferior alternative; it represents a more conservative and sustainable choice.
The Boneyard version exhibits a subtly weathered aesthetic while maintaining full functionality. This boneyard rifle does not include an M14 AEG magazine, necessitating a separate purchase for the magazine. Additionally, the fire selector on this model is somewhat loose; it tends to loosen over time and will revert to semi-automatic mode after several bursts of full auto.
